[Mario Battle Bros ep.5.1]

Not bad.

Aside from Mario and Luigi, it's nice not to see the usual suspects. I guess my only complaint is that Mario and Luigi seem to be no match for that Sonic guy and then beats him with one sneak attack punch.

Just when I think these things can't get worse.

It's not even a demo. It's a five-second loop, Shadow hits Sonic once, and there's an out-of-place movie clip of a giant beam on the stage. I mean, didn't you watch this before you submitted it?

Not bad.

With a title like Super Sonic Bros. Z, I was ready to blast this for being a SMBZ ripoff, but it turned out okay. Your story is far from original but that doesn't mean it can't get better. Just PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DO NOT USE MECHA-SONIC AS THE VILLIAN. That would be copying SMBZ too much (not to mention a crap-load of other losers that have used him only because of SMBZ).

As far as the flash, The animation was good. I like the battle between Sonic and Knuckles because it wasn't too painfully DBZ-ish. Some of the character's text was to hard to read. Try adding a drop shadow to the text, that will help a lot.

I love to review this Sonic sprite flashes and I usually see you guys reviewing them too. And I know you've made some that aren't half bad yourselves, so when I saw you had combined efforts to make this, I was hopeful. But this isn't that good. You have some solo projects that are better then this.
The animation is mediocre at best and the song doesn't really fit. I think "His World" makes a better final battle song. Worst of all, there's not really a story. There's a tournament, but what's the point of it? Why is the series called Sonic Universe? Hopefully, future episodes will reveal more information.

It's okay.

The animation is excellent, but otherwise I don't really see a need to watch it more than once. There's no sound effects, and the music doesn't really fit in my opinion. At least you did give us a little story in the intro instead of just jumping straight into the fight, though it was pretty cliche. I was really hoping for an actual story instead of just a music video fight. Oh and I thought for a second he was going to spare his father at the end, because that would have been a nice departure from an otherwise painfully predictable ending, but he didn't.

It's rare I find a Sonic sprite series I like. I think the engrish actually made it more entertaining. Two things though. You're animated backgrounds need work, adn try to avoid repeated attacks that last too long. It's annoying. Like when they punch them the same way with the same sound effect for several seconds.

I stopped being a Japanophile like eight years ago, so now when people use songs with Japanese lyrics, it just irritates the hell out of me. That's not the problem though, you actually had the Japanese lyrics in the subtitles with English letters. What was the point of that?

On to the other stuff... The movie was just an uninteresting intro to a series you haven't made yet, just like the tons of other flash artists also making Sonic sprite intros and teasers. The animation was mediocre, and I hope your series (if you actually make it) has a good story and not just random sonic sprites fighting each other with the main plot being who can power up the most.

Pointless. Unoriginal.

You tried to make it a little original, but you failed. Making an original Sonic sprite flash doesn't mean simply changing the perspective in a "Sonic vs anything" battle. It means coming up with a good plot that hasn't been done before. Your animation skills are good, you just need to couple them with an entertaining story. I don't know what you're planning for this series, but for the love of God, do not use Mecha-Sonic as the villian.

I'm looking forward to more episodes. I have to agree that waiting for the ring is annoying, not to mention it doesn't have a good clickable area.
So you say you did that to prevent people from accidentally skipping text boxes, but how often does that really happen? Not enough to make it worth having to wait for a few seconds after you're done reading for a ring to pop up.
You also say it's to encourage people to actually read the text instead of just blowing through. But if they don't have the patience to read all the text, they certainly won't have the patience to sit and wait for the ring. They'll just stop watching it and give you a bad score. Half reading the text for the whole episode is better the watching only the half episode because they didn't feel like waiting. Do you see what I'm saying?

Thanks. This is the first and last appearance of the button, though, since I finally got a working mic. The text at the bottom of the screen will still appear for people without functioning speakers (or ears), but it'll autoscroll with the audio. Really, the button was an attempt to try and balance convenience with my personal style... Too bad it flopped, huh?

Eh, I'll have to disagree with the Half text/full episode vs. Full text/half episode thing. I'd say both are just as bad, because in either instance, people aren't getting the full story. That, for me, is a loose/loose situation from a storyteller's perspective.

As for the accidental skipping, that's happened to me numerous times, actually. Cat bumps my hand, mouse decides to act up, my hand twitches at an inopportune moment... I don't think a few seconds' wait is all that bad, though. I guess that's just maybe because I'm more patient than most people these days. I guess when you live in a world of instant downloads, constant access to the internet in your pants pocket, and instant gratification every where you go, when you're forced to wait more than half a second for something, you get flustered XD.
